Empowering Teams and Enhancing Collaboration with SharePoint Intranets

About the client
Oldcastle Infrastructure, a key part of the $28 billion CRH Group, stands as North America’s leading provider of infrastructure solutions. They are a market leader in engineered precast solutions for stormwater management and construction. With a diverse portfolio of highly configurable products, Oldcastle Infrastructure serves a broad spectrum of commercial, industrial, and municipal clients across North America, contributing to essential infrastructure projects.

The Scenario
Oldcastle wanted to improve the way customers interacted with its Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ) Epicore CPQ (formerly KBMax). The existing tool was outdated and difficult to use, impacting lead generation, product understanding, and customer satisfaction. With the goal of improving product configuration, user flow, and Salesforce integration, Oldcastle sought a UX partner who could deeply understand the engineering-driven product and create a seamless digital experience.

The Problem
Despite its importance in the sales process, Oldcastle’s legacy CPQ system was riddled with usability issues.
As a large, diversified organization with operations spanning North America, Oldcastle Infrastructure faced the common challenges of ensuring seamless internal communication, efficient information sharing, and streamlined business processes. Traditional methods often led to fragmented information, manual workflows, and difficulty in accessing critical resources for employees across different departments and locations. There was a clear need for a centralized, dynamic, and automated digital workspace to foster collaboration, enhance productivity, and support various departmental functions, from HR and communications to project management and safety.
The Solution
Ayruz collaborated closely with Oldcastle to revamp the entire user experience of the CPQ tool.
Ayruz partnered with Oldcastle Infrastructure to develop and enhance their internal digital ecosystem, leveraging Microsoft SharePoint as the foundational platform for building robust and intuitive intranets. Our approach focused on creating tailored solutions for various internal audiences, integrating workflow automation using Power Automate to boost efficiency.
Our solutions included:
- Custom SharePoint Intranet Development: We designed and built multiple dedicated SharePoint sites, functioning as specialized intranets for different organizational needs. These platforms serve as central hubs for relevant information, resources, and collaboration spaces for specific teams and initiatives, ensuring that each internal audience receives relevant and targeted content.
- Information Architecture and User Experience: We focused on creating logical and user-friendly information architectures to ensure employees could easily find and access the documents, tools, and updates they needed, enhancing the overall digital employee experience.
- Power Automate Workflow Automation: To streamline business processes and reduce manual efforts, we implemented Power Automate (formerly Microsoft Flow). This involved developing automated workflows for tasks such as document approvals, data collection, notifications, and process initiations, ensuring consistency and efficiency across various functions.
- Comprehensive Digital Workspace Portfolio: Our work encompasses a wide array of critical internal platforms, accessible exclusively within Oldcastle Infrastructure's secure network:
- Talent and L&D: A dedicated portal for managing talent initiatives, learning resources, and employee development programs.
- Communication HUB: A central platform for internal communications, ensuring all employees are informed and connected with company-wide announcements and news.
- Inclusive Culture: A specialized site dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace, offering resources and initiatives.
- Culture Committee: A platform supporting the planning, communication, and execution of initiatives driven by the company's culture committee.
- EHSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security): A crucial resource for managing environmental policies, health and safety guidelines, and security protocols. Given the inherent risks in the construction industry, this portal is vital for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance, and protecting employee well-being on projects.
- EPMO (Enterprise Project Management Office): A centralized platform for managing IT demand, project portfolios, and standardized project management processes.
- Archives: A repository primarily for internally distributed news and historical communications, ensuring organized access to past announcements and updates.
- InternReady: A platform specifically designed to support the onboarding process and provide essential resources for internship programs.
