Product Data Management Solutions for Seamless A2L Refrigerant Transition

About the client
Heatcraft Worldwide Refrigeration, part of Lennox International Inc. (NYSE: LII), has been an industry leader in commercial and industrial refrigeration systems for over 125 years. Serving diverse industries across North America, Heatcraft is known for its engineering excellence and strong market presence under brands like Bohn, Larkin, Climate Control, Chandler, and Magna Refrigeration.

The Scenario
As the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) introduced stricter energy efficiency regulations, Heatcraft faced the urgent need to align its digital, product, and marketing infrastructure with these new standards. Their existing systems were siloed and outdated, unable to scale or support the speed and accuracy required for regulatory compliance. To stay ahead in a competitive and highly regulated industry, they needed not only to comply but to transform—building a future-ready digital foundation capable of supporting rapid go-to-market execution, cross-functional collaboration, and data accuracy at scale.

The Problem
The refrigeration industry is undergoing a significant shift towards lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants, specifically the transition to A2L (HFO) refrigerants.
Heatcraft, a market leader, needed to swiftly adapt its product lines and provide customers with solutions that offered flexibility for current needs (A1/HFC refrigerants, which were part of previous DOE standards) while also preparing them for future A2L regulations.
This transition presented several complex challenges:
- Dual-Refrigerant System Management: Heatcraft was introducing new dual-refrigerant systems supporting both A1 and A2L. This required intricate data management for compatibility, performance, and pricing across both refrigerant types.
- Massive Data Updates: A complete overhaul of product information was needed for new price books, wholesaler files, cross-reference data, and product catalogs. This meant validating thousands of data points with engineering teams to ensure accuracy for both A1 and A2L applications.
- Customer Education & Adoption: Customers needed clear, accessible ways to understand the new refrigerants, find compatible products, and ensure their systems were future-proof.
- Multi-Channel Deployment: Updated information had to be deployed accurately across a new price book, a mobile app, the company's dotCMS website product catalog, and to wholesaler partners.
- Ensuring Data Integrity: Any inaccuracies in product or pricing data related to the new refrigerants could lead to significant compliance risks, customer dissatisfaction, and operational inefficiencies.
The Solution
Ayruz partnered with Heatcraft as an integral strategic extension of their team, collaborating directly with their product management and Lennox IT departments.
Our goal was to create a seamless transition to A2L-compatible products through robust product data management and multi-channel deployment:
- Comprehensive Data Creation & Validation: We undertook the extensive task of creating and validating all necessary product and pricing data for Heatcraft's new dual-refrigerant systems. This involved close collaboration with engineering teams to ensure every specification, compatibility, and performance detail for both A1 and A2L refrigerants was accurate and future-proof.
- New A2L Price Book Development: Leveraging our expertise, we developed a complete new price book specifically for the A2L transition. This new price book clearly outlined the dual-refrigerant capabilities and associated pricing, providing clarity for sales teams and customers.
- Wholesaler File Creation: We also created comprehensive wholesaler files, providing partners with the specific product and pricing data they needed to load into their own systems, ensuring a smooth flow of information down the supply chain.
- Enhanced Cross-Reference Data Creation: We played a key role in creating detailed cross-reference data specifically for condensing units and unit coolers. This vital data helped customers easily transition from A1 to A2L compatible units. All cross-reference data was rigorously validated with engineering to ensure accuracy.
- Multi-Platform Data Deployment & Integration:
- Mobile App Data Integration: We focused on data creation for the new A2L product and cross-reference information, preparing it for deployment into Heatcraft's mobile application (handled by Lennox IT). This provided field teams and customers with on-the-go access to accurate data.
- Website Product Catalog Publishing (dotCMS): We partnered closely with Lennox IT to implement and publish the complete A2L product catalog, including all pricing and cross-reference data, onto their dotCMS website. This ensured the public-facing product information was accurate and up-to-date.
- Rigorous Testing (Data & UAT): To guarantee accuracy across all platforms, Ayruz performed extensive data testing to verify the integrity and consistency of all new A2L product and pricing information. We also conducted thorough User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure the new price book, wholesaler files, mobile app data, and website catalog functioned flawlessly and met user needs.
