Modernizing Pricing Systems for a Complex, High-Stakes Product Ecosystem

With a massive and highly specialized product catalog, Heatcraft needed to transform its manual, error-prone pricing processes into an intelligent, automated system. Managing configurations, compliance updates, and frequent price changes across brands like Bohn, Larkin, Climate Control, and Chandler had become a critical bottleneck. The organization required a future-ready pricing architecture that could reduce turnaround times, eliminate inaccuracies, and support scalable, real-time documentation—without overwhelming internal teams.

The Problem

Heatcraft faced a critical hurdle regarding the updated regulatory standards.

When the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) introduced its stricter DOE 2020 regulatory standards – specifically new AWEF (Annual Walk-In Energy Factor) minimum efficiency requirements – Heatcraft faced a critical hurdle. They needed to quickly ensure all their condensing units, unit coolers, and package systems were compliant.

Beyond just meeting compliance, the real challenge was how to effectively educate their customers and enable a seamless transition in the market. This involved two distinct, complex scenarios:

  • Replacing Old Systems: Customers needed a simple way to cross-reference their existing, non-compliant models with the new, compliant ones.
  • New Installations: Customers required clear guidance to select the correct AWEF-compliant models for new projects.

Without intuitive tools and clear data, this transition risked widespread customer confusion, costly errors, and significant delays in market adoption. Their existing systems simply weren't built to handle this level of complexity and rapid change.

The Solution

Ayruz partnered with Heatcraft as an integral strategic extension of their team, collaborating directly with their product management, engineering, and compliance departments

Our focus was to design and implement specialized data and digital tools that would not only ensure compliance but also simplify the entire transition for Heatcraft's customers:

  • Intelligent Cross-Reference Tool (Web & Mobile): We developed a dynamic cross-referencing tool, accessible on both Heatcraft's website and as a mobile app. This tool allows users to instantly identify compatible new models for replacements, integrating real-time product data for quick, accurate results.
  • "Build a Model" Configuration Tool: We created an intuitive product configurator that guides customers step-by-step through selecting the right components to build new, compliant systems. This tool embeds complex regulatory rules, automatically validating configurations against DOE specifications as they're chosen, ensuring compliance from the start.
  • Centralized Product Data Management (PDM): To power these tools, we established a robust PDM system. This acts as the single, reliable source of truth for all product data, ensuring consistent and accurate information flows into both the cross-reference, "Build a Model" tools and product catalog.

Streamlined AWEF Compliance Experience: By working closely with Heatcraft's internal teams and external vendors, we seamlessly integrated all necessary AWEF compliance data and logic into these user-friendly web and mobile applications. This made it incredibly simple for customers to find and specify compliant solutions, boosting confidence and adoption.
